We are Vern and Gwenda, a retired couple based on the South Coast of New South Wales. Like many other couples our lifestyle before retirement was very busy with  family, work and day to day living. Very little time was available to travel and apart from local camping trips with the kids we were pretty well home bodies. The purchase of a caravan and the upgrading to a vehicle to tow safely, with creature comforts, was an exercise in itself. The “less is more” theory took a tumble at the first hurdle. When we set out to discover what all the fuss was about we realized that for all our life experiences we were still very much novices.

Baby steps or plunge right in?

Many of our fellow travellers have said we’re here for a short time, might as well make it a good time. So we plunged right in at the deep end. After lots of research we bought a caravan from another state and towed it a thousand kms home. Thankfully, each place we stopped at was filled with walking encyclopedias of caravan knowledge, willing to share.  Amazing folk from all walks of life eager to be of assistance.

The Silver Nomads aim

Our aim is to try and pass on some of the great tips and generous advice that we received when starting out.  Each day is another step in our  learning adventure that brings not only information but wonderful friendships. Exciting places to see, fun and stories to share, what a life! We wouldn’t be dead for dollars!
